betinternet.com plc was founded in May 1998 and commenced trading on the 5th October 1998 from its operational headquarters based in Douglas, on the Isle of Man.

As the business developed the company launched its website operation on March 17th 2000. Burnbrae initially invested £2.5m in betinternet.com plc in December 2001 and subsequently invested a further £1.0m by way of equity in December 2004. In January 2005, Burnbrae agreed to provide a term loan of £0.25m which was used by betinternet.com to acquire a strategic stake in a games software development company.
